1984

So far I think that 1984 is good. The book has a lot going on in it so far so it gets kind of confusing sometimes. The society that Winston lives in is very protected. I don't like how the people don't have any privacy. George Orwell did a good job with making up an unrealistic society. The society is a great example of a dystopia. The Thought Police seem as if it would be very unrealistic in out society. There are many ways our society differs from Oceania. The fact that police can look in your windows and listen to what you are thinking is very disturbing. So far i do like the book and I think its going to be very interesting.

Hayley: Nice job here. You say our society is different than Oceania and, for the most part, you are right. However, in what ways are we similar? Remember, authors write about dystopias as a way to warn about current dangers. Even if it's not to the extreme portrayed in 1984, how does our government watch over us?

Keep reading and thinking.

Hayley,
I've felt the same way while reading 1984. Since there's so much going on, it gets really confusing while you're reading. If you ask me, I think that George Orwell probably has/had (is he dead?) a pretty sick mind to come up with such horrifying ideas.
